Ace Hotel New York | September 2026, Manhattan, NY
ABOUT
fools is a site-specific performance series by Mamie Green & Lily Lady exploring the mythos of the American West, masculinity, and desire all set in the intimate confines of Ace New York’s Loft Suite.
The piece draws together two texts: Sam Shepard’s 1983 play Fool for Love, set in a motel room in the Mojave Desert, and Lady’s 2025 poetry collection Blood Brother. Blending dance and theater, fools is a poetic and darkly funny look at gender, familial love, secrets, and loss.
Directed and choreographed by Mamie Green. Original script by Lily Lady. Performed by Wendell Gray II, Gary Reagan, and Sadie Rose Parker. Set design by Future Space. Lighting by Henry Mont.
The performance is presented by Ace New York’s Artist-in-Residence program and ran once a week for three weeks in September.

“Directed and choreographed by Mamie Green and written by Lily Lady, Fools morphs Sam Shepard’s Fool for Love into a kind of dramatic dream dance played out in a suite in the Ace Hotel. The dancing is precise and elegant and the circling rhythmic speech hypnotic, with Gary Reagan and Wendell Gray II as twin brothers tied by a cattle rope that might be an umbilical cord and Sadie Rose Parker as their father, seeming, amazingly to channel the ghost of Sam Shepard’s dad. Clever use of sheets, songs and simple lighting transform this lux suite first into a very different much cheaper motel in Nowhere USA, and then possibly into a womb, or the inside of an old memory.”
